Weekend minimalism

2009.11.29

Following Friday’s bulldog clip photo I decided to continue with the office stationery theme and use a paperclip today. In truth I was running low on inspiration and outdoor shots were once again a non-starter thanks to yet more rain (will it ever end?!). My Dad and I visited a photographic show in Southampton this morning. While there were lots of exciting goodies on show there (including my current dream camera, the Canon 7D) I didn’t see anything particularly worthy of photographing to post here. That said, Santa Claus, aka Dad, did buy my Christmas present (sadly not the 7D) there so I know I’ll have no excuse for not posting something fabulous on Christmas Day! When I got home I raided my ‘bit and bobs’ pot again for a subject to shoot. I tried some compositions using three paperclips at first but wasn’t inspired by the results. Instead I decided to follow the minimalistic route with just one tiny clip. I’ve used a shallow depth of field and have purposely cooled the colour temperature a little to give it a bluer feel. Who said you couldn’t make something artistic out of office tools?!
